How scholarships work in Assam
Assam combines central NSP schemes with two strong state programmes for girls and low-income families. The biggest is Mukhya Mantrir Nijut Moina, a monthly payment that keeps girls in Class 11 to postgraduate studies, while Pragyan Bharati waives admission fees for families below the income limit.
Assam's own schemes
Mukhya Mantrir Nijut Moina
Who: Girl students in Class 11–12, undergraduate and PG / B.Ed in government or provincialised institutions, subject to state conditions
Benefit: ₹1,000 a month (Class 11–12), ₹1,250 a month (UG), ₹2,500 a month (PG / B.Ed) for 10 months
Pragyan Bharati (free admission)
Who: Students in government institutions, family income below the state limit
Benefit: Waiver of admission and tuition fees from HS to PG
Ishan Uday (UGC) for North-East
Who: NE domicile students in UG, family income up to ₹4.5 lakh
Benefit: ₹5,400 a month for general degrees, ₹7,800 a month for technical, medical and professional courses
Application calendar
- July – September: Nijut Moina applications through the college
- August – November: NSP central schemes and Ishan Uday
- October onwards: Nijut Moina monthly payments start (except June and July)
Avoid these rejections
- Nijut Moina is paid only for 10 months a year — June and July are excluded.
- The girl must be unmarried to receive Nijut Moina, so keep the declaration ready.
- Apply for Ishan Uday on NSP in the first year of graduation itself.
