How scholarships work in Jammu & Kashmir

J&K students have a special central scheme, the PM-USP Special Scholarship (earlier PMSSS), which pays fees and a living allowance for studying outside J&K and Ladakh. Inside J&K, post-matric schemes run through NSP.

For J&K students, PMSSS is often the deciding factor in where they study. Seats are allotted through AICTE counselling, and the scholarship pays the academic fee directly to the college up to the stream ceiling, while the ₹1 lakh maintenance is paid to the student in monthly instalments.
