How to use this calculator

  1. Enter the outstanding amount, conversion tenure and the monthly rate the bank quotes.
  2. Add any processing fee — GST at 18% applies to fee AND interest here.
  3. Compare the EMI total against simply paying in full within the grace period.

What is this tool?

Credit-card dues can convert to monthly EMIs — with interest plus 18% GST. This calculator shows the true total of conversion versus paying in full inside the grace period. Use it before tapping 'convert to EMI'.

What banks don't tell you (card EMIs)

Paying in full within the ~45-day grace period costs zero interest and zero GST. Converting to EMI starts interest plus 18% GST on that interest from month one.

Revolving (unpaid) balances run 36–52% yearly, and cash withdrawals never get a grace period — interest plus GST from day one.

'No-cost EMI' usually means the interest is prepaid as an upfront discount or fee — check the GST lines, the cost is often still there in another name.

Common card-EMI questions

Is credit-card EMI conversion free?

No. You pay interest (often 12–15% yearly) plus 18% GST on the interest, plus any processing fee with its own 18% GST.

When is paying in full better?

Almost always, if you can — inside the grace period the cost is exactly zero. Convert only what you cannot clear.

What is 'no-cost EMI' really?

The interest is usually adjusted as an upfront discount or bundled fee. Compare the total outflow line by line instead of trusting the label.

Worked example: ₹60,000 card dues converted to 12 EMIs at 15%

  1. EMI = ₹5,414; interest over 12 months = ₹4,968.
  2. GST at 18% on interest = ₹894; processing fee 1% = ₹600 + ₹108 GST.
  3. Total cost ≈ ₹6,570 — still far cheaper than revolving the balance at about 3.5% a month (around 42% a year).

How the Credit card EMI converter works: the rules

  • GST at 18% is charged on interest and processing fees.
  • Your card limit is blocked by the EMI amount until it is repaid.
  • Foreclosing an EMI plan can carry a fee.

Credit card EMI converter: frequently asked questions

Is converting card dues to EMI a good idea?

Usually yes compared with revolving credit, but compare the total cost.

Is GST charged on card EMI interest?

Yes. GST at 18% is charged on the interest part of every EMI and on the processing fee, so add it when comparing the real cost of card EMI plans.

Does EMI conversion affect my credit limit?

Yes, the outstanding EMI amount stays blocked.

Can I foreclose a card EMI?

Yes, most banks let you close a card EMI early by paying the remaining principal, but many charge a foreclosure fee (often 1–3%) plus GST.

What is a 'no-cost EMI'?

The interest is given as a discount, but processing fees and GST may still apply.

Does card EMI affect credit score?

Paying every card EMI on time builds a good repayment record. Missed EMIs are reported to credit bureaus and can lower your score for years.
