This is the Ministry of Social Justice's scholarship for SC students in Classes 9 and 10. The cost is shared between the Centre and the state (60:40 in most states, 90:10 in the North-East and hill states), which is why you apply on your state's portal or on NSP depending on where you live — the state decides the route.
The family income limit is ₹2.5 lakh a year. Students in Classes 1–8 are not covered by this central scheme; many states run their own pre-matric scheme for those classes, so check your state page.

Yes, students in recognised private schools can apply, as long as the school is registered on the state portal or NSP and verifies the application.
