Choithram Mandi Indore — Soybean, Wheat, Chana & Spices Guide (MP)
Choithram is Indore's main wholesale yard and one of Madhya Pradesh's biggest, with soybean and wheat as the volume crops and chana and spices alongside. The Malwa belt around the city grows much of that soybean, so arrivals here move the state's reference price more than most yards do.

MSP CalculatorThe yard works under the MP State Agricultural Marketing (Mandi) Board through licensed commission agents, with the mandi committee running the gate, the electronic weighbridges and the auction. MP has also pushed electronic trading: daily rates are published on the state's e-Mandi portal, and traders need an e-Anugya transport permit to move produce out of a mandi.
Soybean from the kharif harvest, wheat and chana from rabi, and spices through specialist traders. Soybean is judged on moisture, oil content and foreign matter; wheat on moisture and grain quality; chana on size, colour and dal recovery. The catalog's MP season pattern — soybean September to November, wheat March to May — is the one to plan loading around.

Documents you need
- Aadhaar of the seller
- Land record (khasra / khatouni) for the plot
- Bank passbook in the seller's own name
- e-Uparjan registration and procurement-centre slip for MSP wheat
- Mandi weighment slip and the commission agent's bill
Important warnings
- • Soybean prices collapse when the whole belt harvests at once. Staggering the sale, or storing a dry, clean lot, is the only defence a farmer has.
- • Mandi fee and commission are separate heads and both are deducted; ask for each on the bill rather than accepting one lump sum.
- • Unofficial weighing and loading deductions are a common complaint in MP mandis — watch the electronic weighbridge and keep the slip.
- • For MSP wheat, the e-Uparjan registration and centre allotment come first; a loaded trolley without them has no procurement route.
- • Legal commission rate: Mandi fee ~1% plus commission around 1–2% — verify the notified rate at the Mandi Samiti.
How to sell your crop at Choithram Mandi Indore
- 1
Grade and clean the lot at the farm; foreign matter in soybean and chana is cut on weight.
- 2
For wheat under the MSP route, register on the state's e-Uparjan portal and take the procurement centre and date it gives you.
- 3
Enter the lot at the mandi gate and get it weighed on the electronic weighbridge; take the slip.
- 4
Attend the auction or ask for the accepted rate against your lot number.
- 5
Get the bill with mandi fee, commission, hamali and weighing as separate lines.
- 6
Keep the slip and bill until the payment reaches your bank account.
Say 100 quintals of soybean at ₹4,500 a quintal — ₹4,50,000 gross. Mandi fee at about 1% is ₹4,500, commission at about 1.5% is ₹6,750, hamali and weighing about ₹1,500, leaving roughly ₹4,37,250, or ₹4,372 a quintal. Clean, dry soybean can also avoid a moisture cut, which on this lot is worth more than a day of haggling.
Local tips
In Indore the mandi publishes its daily rate on the state's e-Mandi portal, so check it before you load and again when you reach the yard. For soybean, clean the lot and dry it properly — moisture and foreign matter are the two deductions you can actually control. Keep the weighbridge slip; it is the only record that travels with your lot.
