Bilaspur Mandi Guide — Selling Paddy, Wheat & Vegetables in North Chhattisgarh

Bilaspur is where the paddy plains of north Chhattisgarh meet the wheat fields of Mungeli and Lormi. Its mandi handles two very different sales: the paddy surplus left after the society purchase, and a rabi wheat crop that has no state bonus at all.

Bilaspur Krishi Upaj Mandi Samiti is the main regulated yard of the Bilaspur division and is linked to eNAM. Buyers are a mix of local rice mills, flour mills and traders who ship wheat to Madhya Pradesh and Odisha. Vegetables are sold in a separate daily section to city retailers and to traders from Korba and Janjgir.

Paddy arrives from November to February. Wheat, mostly grown on irrigated land along the Arpa and Maniyari canals, arrives in March and April. Vegetables — tomato, cauliflower, cabbage and brinjal — come in all winter from Takhatpur, Masturi and Kota blocks.

Documents you need

  • Aadhaar and AgriStack farmer ID
  • B-1 / khasra record showing the crop area
  • Bank passbook in your own name
  • Anubandh slip and weighment record for each lot

Important warnings

  • • Wheat MSP for 2027-28 is ₹2,610 per quintal, but MSP purchase of wheat in Chhattisgarh is limited — do not assume a government buyer will be at the yard.
  • • Traders who buy paddy at your doorstep 'at the society rate' are buying above-cap or rejected grain at a discount and pocketing the difference.
  • • Vegetable rates collapse in January when every block harvests at once; leafy vegetables do not hold overnight.
  • • Legal commission rate: Mandi fee ~1%; commission ~1–2% — verify the notified rate.

How to sell your crop at Bilaspur Mandi

  1. 1

Paddy: sell your 21-quintals-per-acre quota through your society on a Tunhar token, then bring only the surplus to the mandi.

  2. 2

Wheat: check whether FCI or the state is buying wheat at MSP that season. If not, the mandi auction is your main outlet, so clean and grade the grain.

  3. 3

Bring wheat that is free of mud, chaff and broken grain. Bilaspur flour mills pay a visible premium for clean, bold grain.

  4. 4

Enter the lot at the gate and take the anubandh slip; check the slip's weight against the samiti kanta reading.

  5. 5

For vegetables, reach the yard before sunrise and sell to the commission agent in the sabzi section, taking a written rate.

Say you bring 40 quintals of wheat to Bilaspur in April. The flour mill bids ₹2,450 for a clean lot, which gives ₹98,000. Hamali and cleaning charges take about ₹800, so you receive roughly ₹97,200. A lot with 3% mud and chaff might be bid at ₹2,300 — ₹92,000 before charges — so a day spent cleaning the grain is worth about ₹6,000.

Local tips

Clean wheat on the threshing floor, not at the yard, where labour is charged per bag. Sell paddy surplus after the society window closes, when mill demand rises and arrivals fall. Keep a photo of every anubandh slip on your phone.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Bilaspur mandi buy wheat at MSP?
Wheat MSP for 2027-28 is ₹2,610 per quintal, but MSP purchase of wheat in Chhattisgarh is small and not guaranteed every season. In most years Bilaspur wheat sells in the open auction to flour mills and traders.
Can I sell paddy at Bilaspur mandi if my society quota is full?
Yes. Paddy above your 21-quintals-per-acre society limit can be sold in the Bilaspur mandi auction to licensed traders. Make sure you get an anubandh slip for each lot.
Which documents do I need to sell at Bilaspur Krishi Upaj Mandi?
Aadhaar, your AgriStack farmer ID, your land record (B-1 / khasra) and a bank passbook in your own name. The samiti issues the gate pass and anubandh slip at the yard.
What time does the vegetable section open at Bilaspur?
Vegetable arrivals start before dawn and most trading is done by mid-morning. Reaching the yard after 9 am usually means fewer buyers and a lower rate.

Yes. Bilaspur is an eNAM mandi, so assayed lots can get online bids. This works best for clean, graded wheat and paddy.
