Durg Mandi Guide — Paddy, Vegetables & Oilseeds for the Durg–Bhilai Market
Durg mandi serves twin cities — Durg and Bhilai — with one of the largest urban demands in Chhattisgarh. Vegetables sell here every day to a large retail buyer base, while paddy and oilseeds follow the state procurement calendar.

MSP CalculatorDurg Krishi Upaj Mandi Samiti is an eNAM-linked regulated yard. Its vegetable section supplies Bhilai's markets and the steel-township colonies. In the grain section, rice mills from Durg and Bemetara bid for paddy, and oil mills buy soybean, groundnut and mustard. Because the city is close, many vegetable growers sell directly to retailers in the yard instead of through an agent.
Paddy arrives from November to February. Soybean and groundnut arrive in October and November, and mustard in March. Vegetables arrive all year from Dhamdha, Patan and Gunderdehi, with tomato and brinjal peaking in winter.

Documents you need
- Aadhaar and AgriStack farmer ID
- B-1 / khasra land record
- Bank passbook in your own name
- Gate pass and anubandh slip
Important warnings
- • Soybean and groundnut have MSPs, but there is seldom a government purchase at Durg. Check the open bid against the notified MSP so you know how far below it you are selling.
- • Tomato gluts in December and January can push rates below the cost of picking. Have a backup buyer or processor in mind.
- • Retail buyers in the sabzi yard sometimes pay part now and promise the rest later. Without a slip, that balance is hard to recover.
- • Legal commission rate: Mandi fee ~1%; commission ~1–2% — verify the notified rate.
How to sell your crop at Durg Mandi
- 1
Check the day's Durg rates on Agmarknet or eNAM before loading, especially for tomato, where prices move fast.
- 2
For oilseeds, dry the lot well. Oil mills deduct for moisture and for foreign matter separately.
- 3
Enter the lot at the samiti gate and get the gate pass with your name and the quantity.
- 4
Sell in the open bid or on eNAM, and take the anubandh slip showing the buyer, rate and weight.
- 5
Collect payment by bank transfer. For vegetables sold to retailers, take cash only against a written slip.
Say you bring 20 quintals of soybean in November. An oil mill bids ₹4,500 per quintal for a dry lot, giving ₹90,000. A 1% moisture deduction (₹900) and hamali of about ₹400 leave roughly ₹88,700. The 2026-27 soybean MSP is ₹5,708, so it is worth checking whether a state or NAFED purchase window is open before you sell.
Local tips
Sell vegetables early, while Bhilai's retailers are still filling their carts. Grade tomatoes into two sizes at the farm — mixed crates are bid at the lower size. For oilseeds, a cleaner, drier lot is the fastest way to get a better rate.
