Sonepat Mandi — Vegetables, Wheat & Paddy Near Delhi (Haryana)

Sonepat sits close enough to Delhi that its vegetable trade is driven by the city's wholesale demand, while wheat and paddy move through the state's MSP machinery. That makes the mandi a two-speed market: vegetables are sold and settled quickly on freshness, grain is procured on paper and paid after lifting.

Grain goes through licensed arhtiyas to HAFED, cooperative agencies and FCI, with DBT payment. Vegetables are sold in the open auction to traders and commission agents who supply Delhi's mandis and retail chains. The vegetable buyer judges freshness and uniformity; the grain buyer judges moisture and weight.

Vegetables through much of the year, wheat in rabi and paddy in kharif. Vegetables are graded on size, colour and freshness, wheat on moisture and grain quality, paddy on moisture and chaff. Vegetable prices swing with Delhi's arrivals, not only with local supply.

Documents you need

  • Aadhaar or voter ID of the seller
  • Land record for grain lots
  • Bank account details in the seller's name
  • J-form and gate entry for MSP grain
  • Weighment slip for every lot

Important warnings

  • • Vegetables have no MSP. A slow auction means a lower price or spoilage, so timing matters more than haggling.
  • • Mixed crates are re-sorted at your cost and priced at the worst item in them.
  • • Grain moisture is read once at the weighbridge; dry the lot before loading.
  • • If you owe the arhtiya, grain proceeds can be adjusted against those dues — settle the account before the season.
  • • Legal commission rate: Statutory up to 2.5%; Centre pays fixed ~Rs.50.75/qtl wheat, ~Rs.50.61/qtl paddy from RMS 2026-27 — verify current notification.

How to sell your crop at Sonepat Grain Market

  1. 1

Grade vegetables at the farm and pack one size per crate; mixed crates are priced at the worst item.

  2. 2

Reach the yard early — the vegetable buyers set the day's price in the first hours.

  3. 3

Weigh and take the slip before the auction; keep your own crate count.

  4. 4

For wheat and paddy, take the J-form and note the lot number.

  5. 5

Read the quality report at sampling for grain, and the grade note for vegetables.

  6. 6

Keep the bill and slip until settlement; for grain, until the DBT credit appears.

Say 20 quintals of tomato at ₹1,100 a quintal — ₹22,000 gross. Commission and labour of about ₹700 and transport of ₹800 leave roughly ₹20,500, or ₹1,025 a quintal. The same load arriving after the auction has thinned out might fetch ₹900 instead, which is about ₹4,000 less for the same 20 quintals — the difference is the hour you reach, not the crop.

Local tips

For vegetables, arrive before the auction starts and sell the best crates first; do not hold back waiting for a better bid later in the day. For grain, ask which agency is lifting that week before loading, and photograph the J-form as soon as it is issued.

Haryana: registration & rules recap

Like Punjab, Haryana procures through arhtiyas with DBT to the farmer's bank account. Keep the J-Form (purchase) and weigh slip safe until payment clears.

Frequently Asked Questions

What time does the vegetable auction start at Sonepat?
The main buying happens in the early hours because the traders resell into Delhi the same day. A lot that arrives after the auction has thinned out usually meets a lower price, so plan the journey backwards from the start time.
Does Sonepat mandi procure wheat and paddy at MSP?
Both wheat and paddy are procured at MSP in Sonipat, but in different seasons and through different agency allocations. Wheat comes in the rabi window through the co-operatives, paddy in kharif, and the vegetables Sonipat also trades get no support at all — check which window you are in before you load.
What commission is charged at Sonepat mandi?
Commission on regulated commodities is set under Haryana's APMC rules, and labour and weighing are charged separately. Ask for each as its own line on the bill, and keep the slip.
Why is my vegetable lot priced lower than my neighbour's?
Sonepat's vegetable buyers price a crate on its worst item, so one over-ripe or bruised piece pulls the whole crate down. Grade at the farm into one size and one maturity per crate, and bring it in before the buyers have filled their day's requirement.
How do I sell paddy at MSP in Sonepat?
Get the J-form from your arhtiya, take the gate entry, and sell through the procurement agency at MSP. Payment is by DBT to the account named on the J-form after lifting.
Is Sonepat mandi listed on eNAM?
The yard is listed on the eNAM portal, though the vegetable trade here runs on the physical auction. Use eNAM for the grain reference rate.
