Lucknow Mandi — Vegetables, Fruit & Grain for the Capital (UP)
Lucknow's mandi supplies a capital city of several million people, so it trades a wide book: vegetables and fruit daily, grain in larger lots, and a steady flow of produce from the surrounding districts. The buyers are retailers, hotel and restaurant suppliers, and small processors, and they judge a lot on freshness and uniformity before they look at the rate.

MSP CalculatorThe yard works through licensed arhtiyas under the state mandi samiti system. Commission is commonly around 2.5% on regulated commodities, and labour and weighing are separate. Because the city's demand is steady, a regular supplier who brings the same grade every week often gets a better rate than a one-off lot of mixed quality.
Vegetables and fruit through the year, with local gluts in the winter months; grain in the rabi and kharif windows. Vegetables are judged on size, colour and freshness, fruit on ripeness and bruising, grain on moisture and cleanliness. Fruit prices swing with the arrival of the main season crop.

Documents you need
- Aadhaar or voter ID of the seller
- Bank account details in the seller's name
- Land record for grain sold under MSP procurement
- Weighment slip issued at the yard
- The arhtiya's bill showing rate and deductions
Important warnings
- • Fruit and vegetables have no MSP. A late arrival meets a falling market, and there is no agency to fall back on.
- • Unofficial deductions — dami, galli, labour — are the commonest complaint in UP mandis. Ask what each covers and insist it is on the bill.
- • Fruit is graded on ripeness and bruising; a crate packed too ripe will not survive the trip to the retailer.
- • Grain moisture is read once, at the weighbridge, before the lot is tipped.
- • Legal commission rate: 2.5% arhtiya commission is common on procurement — verify the notified rate.
How to sell your crop at Lucknow Mandi
- 1
Sort and pack at the farm. A mixed crate is priced at its worst item, and the city buyer will not re-sort for you at his cost.
- 2
Reach the yard early for the vegetable and fruit auction.
- 3
Weigh and take the slip; keep your own count of crates or bags.
- 4
For grain, note the lot number and the moisture reading at the weighbridge.
- 5
Get the rate and every deduction written on the bill.
- 6
Collect payment on the agreed date and keep the bill until it clears.
Say 15 quintals of fruit at ₹2,400 a quintal — ₹36,000 gross. Commission at 2.5% is ₹900, labour and crates about ₹600, transport ₹1,000, leaving roughly ₹33,500, or ₹2,233 a quintal. If the fruit is packed over-ripe and a third of the crates are discounted on arrival, the same load returns far less — the packing decision at the farm outweighs the rate negotiated at the gate.
Local tips
For a city market, consistency sells. Bring the same grade every week and the buyer stops haggling on quality. Pack fruit slightly firmer than you would for a local sale, and ask the arhtiya for the previous week's rate before you load, so you know whether the market is rising or falling.

Uttar Pradesh: registration & rules recap
Wheat/paddy MSP procurement uses a token/registration at the mandi and DBT to bank accounts. Sugarcane runs on a separate cane-area system — payment is per the state advisory price (SAP), not the mandi.
