Meerut Mandi — Wheat, Sugarcane & Vegetables Selling Guide (UP)

Meerut's mandi sits in a belt where wheat, sugarcane and vegetables overlap, and the three do not go through the same channel: wheat goes through the mandi and MSP procurement, sugarcane goes to the mill on the state's cane price, and vegetables are auctioned fresh each day.

Grain and vegetables trade through licensed arhtiyas under the mandi samiti system, with commission commonly around 2.5% on regulated commodities. Sugarcane is outside the mandi — it is bought by sugar mills at the state advisory price (SAP), delivered through cane centres, and paid on the mill's schedule, which is a separate and often slower payment chain.

Wheat in rabi, sugarcane through the crushing season, and vegetables year-round. Wheat is judged on moisture and grain quality, vegetables on freshness and size, and sugarcane on weight and recovery at the mill. Cane payment is not a mandi transaction and cannot be settled in the yard.

Documents you need

  • Aadhaar or voter ID of the seller
  • Bank account details in the seller's name
  • Land record for wheat sold under MSP procurement
  • Cane supply slip and mill weighment record
  • Mandi weighment slip and the arhtiya's bill

Important warnings

  • • Sugarcane is not sold in the mandi. It goes to the mill at the state advisory price, and mill payment delays are a long-standing complaint — keep the supply slip and weighment record.
  • • Wheat moisture is read once at the weighbridge; dry the lot before loading.
  • • Unofficial deductions — dami, galli, labour — should be on the bill; question anything that is not a notified charge.
  • • Vegetables have no MSP and no storage life, so a late arrival means a lower price.
  • • Legal commission rate: 2.5% arhtiya commission is common on procurement — verify the notified rate.

How to sell your crop at Meerut Mandi

  1. 1

Keep the three channels separate from the start: wheat to the mandi, cane to the mill, vegetables to the auction.

  2. 2

For wheat, get the arhtiya's bill for the MSP route and note the lot number and weighment.

  3. 3

For cane, get the supply slip from the cane centre and keep the mill's weighment record.

  4. 4

For vegetables, grade, pack and reach before the auction thins out.

  5. 5

Watch the weighbridge in every case, and keep your own copy of the slip.

  6. 6

Follow each payment separately — the mill, the arhtiya and the mandi settle on different clocks.

Say 60 quintals of wheat at ₹2,500 a quintal — ₹1,50,000 gross. Commission at 2.5% is ₹3,750, labour about ₹1,200, leaving roughly ₹1,45,050, or ₹2,417 a quintal. The same farmer's cane is paid on the mill's schedule at the state price, separately — which is why the two incomes should be tracked as two payments, not one.

Local tips

For cane, the supply slip is the document that gets you paid — keep it and the mill's weighment record together. For wheat, ask the arhtiya which agency is lifting that week before you load. For vegetables, early arrival and one grade per crate do more for the price than any negotiation.

Uttar Pradesh: registration & rules recap

Wheat/paddy MSP procurement uses a token/registration at the mandi and DBT to bank accounts. Sugarcane runs on a separate cane-area system — payment is per the state advisory price (SAP), not the mandi.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is sugarcane sold at Meerut mandi?
No. Sugarcane goes to the sugar mill at the state advisory price through the cane centre system, not through the mandi auction. Keep the supply slip and the mill's weighment record, because mill payment delays are a common complaint.
What commission is charged at Meerut mandi?
Meerut's commission on regulated commodities is around 2.5%, and the district's sugarcane is not part of that trade at all — cane goes to the mill on the state's advised price. Ask for the commission on the wheat or vegetable lot you are actually selling.
Does Meerut mandi procure wheat at MSP?
Meerut's wheat procurement runs through the mandi samiti with a registration and token, and payment by DBT. Sugarcane, the district's other major crop, is priced by the mill against the state's advisory price — not by MSP — so do not expect the same route for both.
What time is the vegetable auction at Meerut?
Meerut's vegetable trade begins at dawn so the retailers can open their shops on time. Reach the gate before the fixed start, because buyers thin out afterwards and the rate drops with them.
How long does cane payment take in Meerut?
Cane is paid by the mill on its own schedule, which can run from weeks to several months depending on the season and the mill's finances. The supply slip and weighment record are your only proof, so keep both.
Is Meerut mandi listed on eNAM?
Meerut is on eNAM, but the yard's wheat enters through commission agents and its vegetables through the floor auction, so the portal is a reference. Sugarcane, the district's biggest crop, never appears there at all.
