Dibrugarh Market Guide — Tea Green Leaf, Paddy & Mustard in Upper Assam
In Dibrugarh the most important farm sale is not in a mandi at all: thousands of small tea growers sell green leaf to bought-leaf factories every week. Paddy and toria mustard are sold through the local markets and procurement centres.

MSP CalculatorDibrugarh is one of Assam's leading tea districts. Small tea growers, often on a few bighas, sell plucked leaf to bought-leaf factories through agents or directly. The Tea Board's price-sharing formula is meant to link the green-leaf price to the made-tea auction price. The Dibrugarh market and town wholesalers trade paddy, mustard and vegetables. The market is not on eNAM.
Tea leaf is plucked from March to December, with the best quality in the second flush from May to June. Sali paddy is harvested from November to December, and toria mustard in January and February. Vegetables come in through winter.

Documents you need
- Aadhaar card
- Land record (patta) or small-tea-grower registration
- Bank passbook in your own name
- Leaf delivery slip with weight and rate
Important warnings
- • Leaf agents sometimes deduct weight for 'water' or 'coarse leaf' without showing you. Ask for the weighment and deduction on the slip.
- • Payment from bought-leaf factories is often monthly. Keep every delivery slip to check the total.
- • Paddy procurement capacity is limited, and quotas can fill early.
- • Legal commission rate: Mandi fee ~1%; commission ~1–2% — verify the notified rate.
How to sell your crop at Dibrugarh Market
- 1
Tea: find out the month's green-leaf price under the Tea Board price-sharing formula, and compare it with what the factory or agent is paying.
- 2
Pluck 'two leaves and a bud'. Coarse leaf is rejected or bought at a much lower price.
- 3
Deliver leaf the same day, in airy bags, never packed tight in plastic.
- 4
Paddy: sell at the procurement centre at MSP, with your land record and bank details.
- 5
Mustard: dry well and sell to oil mills or traders; compare the bid with the rapeseed-mustard MSP.
Say you deliver 800 kg of green leaf in a month. At ₹22 per kg, that is ₹17,600. If the agent cuts 5% for 'water', you lose 40 kg, or ₹880. Fine plucking that gets ₹25 per kg instead would give ₹20,000 for the same leaf.
Local tips
Join a Self-Help Group or a small-tea-growers' society to sell leaf collectively and negotiate with factories. Fine plucking costs more labour but pays more per kg. Sell mustard when it is fully dry.
