Beltola Bazar Guwahati Guide — Selling at the Thursday & Sunday Hill Market
Beltola is not an APMC yard. It is a centuries-old bi-weekly bazaar, held every Thursday and Sunday along the road from Beltola Tiniali to Jayanagar Chariali. Khasi, Jaintia, Karbi and Bodo growers sell directly to Guwahati households here, often at better rates than a wholesaler would pay.

MSP CalculatorMore than 1,500 vendors set up on market days, many of them tribal women from the Meghalaya foothills and Sonapur. Selling is retail and face to face, so there is no auction, no commission agent and no notified market fee. Instead, space is managed by the local market authority, and vendors pay a daily collection for their spot. Because the bazaar occupies a public road, a move to a covered market building has been planned.
Seasonal greens, bamboo shoot, ginger, turmeric, king chilli (bhut jolokia), black, bora and joha rice, local fruit, and dried and fresh fish. Winter, from November to February, brings the widest vegetable range. Monsoon brings bamboo shoot, wild greens and fish.

Important warnings
- • Anyone demanding extra money for a spot without a receipt is not an official collector.

- • Fish and greens lose value fast in the afternoon heat — bring ice or wet sacks.
- • Legal commission rate: Mandi fee ~1%; commission ~1–2% — verify the notified rate.
How to sell your crop at Beltola Market Guwahati
- 1
Plan around the market days: harvest on Wednesday or Saturday evening, and reach Beltola by 5–6 am on Thursday or Sunday.
- 2
Sort produce into small heaps or bundles priced per heap. Beltola shoppers buy household quantities, not quintals.
- 3
Pay the daily spot collection only against a printed receipt.
- 4
Carry a small spring or digital scale for items sold by the kg, such as ginger and rice.
- 5
Keep any unsold perishables for a wholesaler at Fancy Bazar or the local retail markets before you leave the city.
Say you bring 40 kg of ginger and 60 bundles of leafy greens. Ginger sold retail at ₹80 per kg gives ₹3,200, and greens at ₹20 a bundle give ₹1,200, so ₹4,400 in total. Take away a daily spot collection of, say, ₹50–100 and a shared vehicle of about ₹400, and you keep roughly ₹3,900. A wholesaler might offer ₹50 per kg for the same ginger.
Local tips
Regular buyers return to the same vendor — keep the same spot each week. Accept UPI; many Guwahati shoppers no longer carry cash. Items like joha rice and bhut jolokia sell at a premium when clean and well packed.
