Nagaon Mandi Guide — Paddy, Jute & Vegetables in Central Assam
Nagaon is one of Assam's main paddy and jute districts and supplies vegetables to Guwahati and Upper Assam. Its regulated market is on eNAM, and its two big cash crops each have a central MSP buyer — FCI and state agencies for paddy, JCI for jute.

MSP CalculatorThe Nagaon regulated market, under the Assam State Agricultural Marketing Board, handles grain, raw jute and vegetables. Jute is bought by private balers and by the Jute Corporation of India (JCI) when the market rate falls below MSP. Paddy is meant to go to procurement centres. Vegetables from Raha, Kaliabor and Kampur move out by lorry.
Sali (winter) paddy is harvested from November to January, and boro paddy in May and June. Raw jute is retted and dried from July to September. Winter vegetables — cabbage, cauliflower, tomato and potato — run from November to March.

- Bank passbook in your own name
- Sale slip with weight and rate
Important warnings
- • Floods can delay harvest and push village traders' paddy rates far below MSP. Register early so you have a procurement option.
- • Jute retted in muddy water turns dark and drops grades — a cost you can't recover at the yard.
- • Procurement capacity in Assam is short of production, so centres can close quotas early.
- • Legal commission rate: Mandi fee ~1%; commission ~1–2% — verify the notified rate.
How to sell your crop at Nagaon Mandi
- 1
Paddy: register with the procurement centre or your cooperative before harvest, and sell your sali paddy at MSP (₹2,441 per quintal for common paddy in 2026-27).
- 2
Jute: ret in clean, slow-moving water and dry fully. JCI and balers grade by colour, strength and root content.
- 3
Check whether a JCI purchase centre is operating near you and what grade rates it is paying before you sell to a village trader.
- 4
Enter the regulated market, sell against a written slip, and verify the weight.
- 5
Take payment to your own bank account.
Say you sell 20 quintals of raw jute. A good-colour lot graded at the JCI centre near MSP might fetch ₹5,500 per quintal — ₹1,10,000. A dark, root-heavy lot sold to a village trader might fetch ₹4,500 — ₹90,000. Clean retting is worth about ₹20,000 on 20 quintals.
Local tips
Ret jute in a clean pond or flowing water and wash the fibre before drying. Sell paddy at the procurement centre early in the season, before quotas fill. Use eNAM lot prices to compare vegetable rates with Guwahati.
